The wakizashi is a short Japanese sword (seto), which was mainly used by samurai and worn on a belt. It was worn paired with a katana. 

The length of the wakizashi blade is from 1 to 2 shakus (30.3 – 60.6 cm), the total length with the handle is about 50-85 cm (usually 70-80 cm).

The wakizashi blade is one-sided sharpening, low curvature. It is similar in shape to a katana. 

Wakizashi is allowed to be worn by merchants and artisans as a full-fledged self-defense weapon.
